This summer reminded us why Good Shepherd's Clothes Closet exists. Whether it was a new sign going up, a room full of friends raising a glass, or neighbors in crisis during the Hawk Fire, our community showed up again and again.

A new sign for a nearly 30-year mission

In July, our beautiful new sign went up at 540 Greenbrae Drive in Sparks. It's a small thing on the outside of the building, but it means a lot to us. For nearly 30 years, you have trusted us to provide free clothing, shoes, and essentials to people in Northern Nevada, and we're grateful to everyone who helped make the new sign happen.

Raising a glass for a good cause

On August 21, friends joined us at High Mark Distillery for our Whiskey Tasting Fundraiser. Guests enjoyed a guided tasting, took home a keepsake whiskey glass, and bid on silent auction items that honored everyone from Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin to Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Michael Jordan, and Taylor Swift. Every ticket and every bid helps keep our doors open to neighbors who need clothing at no cost.

Standing with neighbors affected by the Hawk Fire

When the Hawk Fire displaced families across Northern Nevada in August, we wanted to make sure no one had to figure out where to turn on their own. We put together a Fire Victim Resource List with local help for clothing, food, housing, health care, employment, education, and other essential needs, along with a request form for anyone who needs support. We're also grateful for our Micro Closet partners at Eddy House, who opened their doors to young adults ages 18 to 24 who were displaced or unhoused, offering emergency shelter beds, hot meals, showers, clothing, and hygiene items. Partnerships like this one are how help reaches the people who need it most.

Checking in on each other

Not every struggle is visible. Sometimes the most important thing any of us can do is check in on a friend, a neighbor, or a stranger. A simple act of kindness can be a lifeline, and it's at the heart of everything we do.

Our biggest night of the year is coming up. Join us for the Nevada Day Dinner on Friday, October 30, at 6:00 PM at the Atlantis Casino Resort Spa, 3800 South Virginia Street in Reno.
